Find out more about Reiki....

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a simple energetic technique developed by Mikao Usui in Japan. It is easy to learn and use – anyone can do it! You remain fully clothed during the treatment, seated or lying down. The practitioner simply places hands on or above your body and universal life force energy will flow where it needs to. The practitioner acts as the conduit in the flow of this abundant energy that surrounds us at all time.

How can Reiki help?

A reiki treatment may encourage your body to reach a state of relaxation and balance where it can heal itself. Reiki works on all levels of your being - physical, emotional spiritual. Studies have shown that reiki complements conventional medical treatments and that is can help to manage pain, speed up recovery times, lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve overall physical and emotional wellbeing.

What to expect during a treatment

You may feel heat, cold, a vibration or tingling sensation. You may see colours or flashes of light. Feelings and emotions that have been buried may bubble to the surface, let them. Try not to analyse it too much, just relax and allow the experience unfold. Most people naturally internalise their awareness and lie silently, through the treatment, however if you feel uncomfortable or have a question or comment please feel free to talk!

What does the research say about Reiki?

Reiki is being used in a range of healthcare environments around the world, including hospitals, cancer support services, pain clinics and palliative care. As Reiki practitioners, we need to be careful not to make claims that Reiki can heal, cure or replace medical treatment.

We can, however, refer to the research. Studies have investigated Reiki in relation to areas such as anxiety, pain, wellbeing and quality of life, with many reporting positive findings.  Read more about some of these studies in our article Research into Reiki in Healthcare

 Sirpa / Jyotipari

Yoga Instructor and Reiki Master Teacher

My Reiki journey started with curiosity, I wanted to understand how energy worked and get a glimpse of the source behind it. There is an old saying …. “When the student is ready the Master Appears.” I have been blessed to cross paths with some amazing Reiki Master Teachers each of whom have shared their unique perspective and individual experience with Reiki. I completed the following Reiki training:
  • Level 1 with Ann Kerwin
  • Level 2 / Reiki Practitioner with Judi Harriman
  • Level 3a / Reiki Master Practitioner with Tania Bruce
  • Level 3b / Reiki Master Teacher with Ann Kerwin
  • In 2023 I redid all reiki levels (1-4) in person with Inamoto Hyakuten of Komyo ReikiDo

Alongside Reiki I studied to be a Yoga Instructor and did my Level 1, 2 & 3 Instructor training with Ashram Yoga. This has given me greater insight and practical experience of the workings of the energetic body which complement my reiki practice.

I am a member of the Reiki AssociationNZ, Yoga NZ and the international Yoga Alliance.
