  • About Maria

Maria’s yoga journey began more than 30 years ago in Kerala, Southern India, where she met an inspiring yogi teaching from a rustic hut with clay-packed floors and windows framed by coconut palms. Captivated by both the physical and spiritual aspects of the practice, Maria was deeply moved by the teacher’s strength, flexibility, quiet humility, and wisdom.

It was here that the seeds of two dreams were planted: to one day become a yoga teacher, and to master the peacock pose — the latter still a work in progress!

Maria has practiced yoga consistently ever since, exploring a wide range of modalities including  Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Yin and pregnancy yoga. She maintains a steady home practice that blends asana, pranayama and meditation.

She recently completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training and is excited to begin sharing yoga with others. Over the last 30 years yoga has woven its way through the many transitions of her life from the twenty something seeking fitness and aesthetic benefits, through to adulthood, motherhood and beyond. Yoga has helped with all the physical and mental challenges that life throws and it’s  this deep and embodied knowledge of yoga that Maria seeks to share with her students.

In addition to teaching yoga, Maria is an experienced massage therapist working from her home just outside Pukekohe. She has a diploma in Clinical Therapeutic Massage and a diploma in Nueromuscular therapy both of which deepen her understanding of anatomy enhancing her embodiment of yoga.
